Family in the Application of Character Education

Family in the Application of Character Education
The child is the center of education and learning in the family. The education provided by the parents to the child should be oriented to the needs of the child as a biopsychosocial religious creature and use methods appropriate to the child's development, both his biological physical development, his psychic development, social development and the development of his religiosity.

In its development, children, especially those who have reached adolescence, have certain attitudes, certain knowledge, and certain skills. Teens are not like empty glasses that can easily be loaded with something. Thus a different approach is required in education for adolescents. Education for adolescents should refer to the principle of adult education. Learning Family Experience

One of the effective learning methods for learning in the family is the method of experiential learning. has enormous benefits in adult education aimed at enhancing skills in human relationships, behavioral change, and cooperation within organizations. Learning from this artificial experience is considered effective when learners undergo a process according to a circle called The Experiential Learning Cycle.

The experience-based learning process takes place according to a pattern that begins with an experience, then continues on the contemplation and analysis of the meaning of the experience and about its continuation. In experiential learning, the experience is created in a learning situation. Through this experience will give people a lesson and that learning from the experience or meaning of an experience depends on the processing by the person experiencing itself. Through a learning process facilitated by a professional learning facilitator, the person will find out for himself a lesson that can be drawn from his experience.

Application of Character Education

Through this model, the individual can learn intact, which involves aspects of cognition, affection, and conation. This model of learning experience needs to be considered a non-traditional learning model. This is because the current reality that learning is associated with the concept of school, in the classroom, lecturers/teachers provide information with lectures only. Learning becomes problematic (instructive, dependent on teachers/lecturers, achieving predetermined curriculum targets) so that individual opportunities to develop in accordance with their respective potentials are less actualized.

Through the model of individual learning experience can develop in accordance with its potential because the model of experiential learning is active, self-directed, and includes aspects of cognition, and affection. Through experiential learning model, in addition to improving the quality of memory, it is also appropriate to teach a skill, such as teaching empathetic listening skills, counseling skills, computer skills, problem-solving problems effectively, etc.

Learning family experiences can be applied to all family members through daily life. For example, to provide the disciplined and responsible ability, family members can choose their own household chores as their duties and responsibilities. In the execution of these tasks, family members monitor their own implementation and get feedback from other family members. For example, the elder chooses to douse the flower pot then the mother, father, and sister can provide feedback on the performance of the older sibling. Likewise for the planting of good habits, for example, honesty, hard work, helpful, done through real examples and feedback with all members of the family.

The role of parents in character education is as a facilitator. Parents are in charge of designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the character education outcomes for all family members on an ongoing basis.
